There are 17 orders, 45 families and 222 bird species in total recorded in Pu'er Sun River National Park, including the green peafowl and black-necked long-tailed pheasant which are the first class national protected animals, and 25 kinds of the second class national protected animals such as the silver pheasant and anthracoceros coronatus. Because of the rich wetland and many wild fruit trees like birchleaf pear in Wild Rice Pond Wetland, many kinds of birds are attracted to forage here, which makes the place a natural paradise for birds. The birds easier to observe here include zosterops palpebrosa, garrulax canorus, taeniopygia guttata, crested myna, garrulax chinensis, turtledove and sunbirds, etc.
