Covering an area of 20, 000 square meters, Lion-Tiger Hill is located in the northeast of the park, and is home to more than 100 large predators such as white lions and Amur tigers that inhabit the mountains and forests. Through the gaps between the trees, the carnivores hiding in the jungle can be occasionally seen. Once one tiger roars, other tigers and lions would follow; the resounding roaring of the big cats is a spectacular scene. The exhibit offers a tour on the ring elevated walkway, from which the visitors can enjoy viewing the predators in the jungle from different angles and different sides.
Tigers in Lion-Tiger Hill are Amur tigers, Bengal tigers and Bengal white tigers. Currently there are only 150 to 200 Amur tigers left in the wild, and less than ten in China. With a population of 3,250 to 4,700 in the wild, the Bengal Tiger is currently the most abundant subspecies of tiger. The white tiger has a rare color type, with its ivory fur and long brown cross lines, peach red nose and palms, and two colorless eyes that are transparent in the sun but light blue in shadow.
In addition to tigers, the “Savanah King", African lions and white Lions also live in Lion-Tiger Hill. The African lion is the only social feline, living in family groups. Currently, lions are mainly distributed in the large areas in sub-Saharan Africa and Western India’s Gujarat State. Lions are active in the morning and at dawn, and sleep during daytime, with no fixed residence. Their smell, hearing and vision are very sensitive. A lion’s life expectancy is 10-12 years. The white Lions are albino mutants of African lion.
